Monroe Region - Louisiana Department of Children & Family Services and City of Monroe to Host National Adoption Awareness Month Activities

EVENT: Mayor Jamie Mayo and the Monroe City Council, in conjunction with the Louisiana
Department of Children & Family Services, invite the media and public to the DCFS National
Adoption Awareness Month event.

SUMMARY: November is National Adoption Awareness Month. The Monroe Region DCFS
completed 135 adoptions this past fiscal year and was recognized as the Adoption Unit of the Year
in Louisiana. On November 6, the Heart Gallery will be on display in Monroe City Hall. It will
feature boys and girls in our region who are available for adoption. Our local DCFS officials will
recognize the Monroe Region’s Adoptive Parents of the Year. Officials will also discuss the need
for and process of adoption in Louisiana. Currently, there are more than 3943 children in the
State of Louisiana who are in foster care. 477 of those children are in the Monroe region. 80 are
available for adoption.


EVENT: SUPERHERO 3k/5k WALK/RUN: The Monroe Region DCFS Office will host this
annual event Saturday, November 9. Registration is FREE and starts at 7:30 am on-site. The
race will be from 8 am – 11 am. Wear your favorite costume and have fun while raising awareness
for a worthy cause.
