The Division consists of two Investigators that are primarily responsible for Fire Cause Determinations in the City of Monroe, however the division also conducts Administrative Investigations such as pre-employment screenings, background investigations, and Internal Affairs Investigations. Those assigned to the unit are Certified Fire Investigators as well as POST Certified Peace Officers with full arrest powers.
Fire Investigators undergo extensive training which includes Fire/Arson Investigations and Interview and Interrogation Training provided by the National Fire Academy. Investigators attend the North Delta Regional Police Academy to attain knowledge in the enforcement of local, state and federal criminal statutes. Investigators are certified as Origin and Cause Investigators. Both Investigators are certified examiners in Forensic Voice Stress Analysis. This extensive training helps Investigators while conducting Origin and Cause Determinations at the fire scene as well as Criminal Investigations once a fire has been identified as arson.
Monroe Fire Investigators work closely with other local fire investigators as well as the State Fire Marshal's Office. Investigators work closely with other local law enforcement, Louisiana State Police, and Federal Agencies such as the ATF and FBI.
