City of Monroe and Main Street Monroe to Reveal Candy Company Murals October 13, 2022
(Monroe, LA) Mayor Friday Ellis and the City of Monroe invite you to the reveal of the Candy Company Mural Project.
The reveal will be held Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Revival Design and Consign located at 300 Walnut Street in downtown Monroe. The party starts at 5:00 p.m. and wraps up at 7:00 p.m.
The Candy Company Mural Project features 13 local artists whose works are displayed on panels located on the side of the Ouachita Candy Company. The city purchased the Ouachita Candy Company, located on Walnut Street in downtown Monroe, back in October of 2021. The building will be remodeled through a public-private partnership into a mixeduse facility that will include residential and retail properties.
In June, a call for artists was issued and a committee narrowed submissions down to the following artists: Jason Byron Nelson, Lissy Sanders Compton, Shykeria Smith, Keagan Vaughan, Brooke Foy, Inique Harris, Morgan Tanner, JaCera Francois, Ashley Greer, Callan Thornton, Rae Tedeton, Ashley Alford Dollar, and Daniel Myers.
The artists began work over the summer and we are proud to celebrate their hard work. The Candy Company Mural Project is a community art project done in conjunction with the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council that’s designed to highlight local artists, offer training opportunities, and bring more public art installations to the City of Monroe.
Please join us as we celebrate these local artists and their works.
Best,
