Ouachita Green Arbor Day Tree Planting: January 31
Mayor Jamie Mayo, the Monroe City Council, Ouachita Green, and Keep Monroe Beautiful
invite all to join their Arbor Day celebration 10:00 am Friday, January 31, 2020. This
celebration will take place in Monroe near the intersection of Highway 165 South and Highway
15. Ouachita Green’s tree planting will commence our local Arbor Day celebrations.
Participants and spectators are asked to park on the Service Road on MLK Jr. Drive.
This year’s celebration will kick-off a new landscaping project by featuring the planting of two
Pond Cypress trees. This overall project will be continued later and include the planting of
several more Pond Cypress trees highlighting the Highway 165 South “Welcome to Monroe”
sign. Attached is an artist rendering of the completed proposed project. This ceremony
contributes to the growing number of beautification projects in the area.
Arbor Day has been observed in America since 1872 and is intended to encourage the planting
and care of tress. Arbor Day celebration dates vary from state to state depending on the climate,
with Louisiana’s being one of the earliest.
