Public Education
"The Monroe Fire Department actively participates in the education of local children in fire safety."
Each year we provide a demonstration for local school children of the various aspects of firefighting, such as fire suppression, rescue, rappelling, and an accelerant-sniffing dog. This demonstration is conducted during Fire Prevention Week each year in October and is held at our training grounds at 300 Forrest Avenue in Monroe.
We also can visit schools and youth centers and teach and demonstrate fire safety principles on site. We believe interaction between children and firefighters is important to establish trust and comfort with firefighters who may be called to help neighborhood children in a fire, accident, or illness. We welcome classroom field trips at our fire stations as well. Educational materials and gifts are available as hand-outs and teaching aids for your class. Contact our administration during business hours at (318)329-2474 for more information.
