On Wednesday, June 19th , the local Samoan Civic & Social Club, along with the City of Monroe Public Works Department will celebrate National Garbage Man Day by honoring the brave men & women in our Sanitation Division. These employees work extremely hard each day picking up garbage, cleaning and mowing ditches, cleaning out culverts, unstopping drains, picking up litter and debris (the list goes on and on).
Several years ago, John Arwood, created a special day to invite the nation to celebrate those who work in the waste industry and to raise awareness for our garbage men and women who are so important to the quality of life in our cities and homes. Mr. Arwood wanted waste and recycling companies to recognize their employees; and, he for cities, towns and neighborhoods across America show appreciation to their trash collectors.
Now, this day has grown into a fullblown celebration of the importance of what they bring to our communities.
