Monroe Police Clear Monroe City Schools After Active Shooter Hoax

Thursday, September 22, 2022 - 1:45pm

(Monroe, LA) Mayor Friday Ellis is commending the Monroe Police Department after Thursday morning’s school shooter hoax.

The call about a possible school shooter at Neville High School came in just before 10:00 a.m. Officers were on scene at Neville High School within one minute of the call, joining the school’s resource officer who was already on scene. They were able to clear the school within three minutes.

Out of an abundance of caution, officers with the Monroe Police Department locked down, inspected, and cleared all the schools within the city’s limits.

“What we saw today was countless hours of training put into practice. Our officers responded immediately and were inside that school within a minute. As a parent of kids in the Monroe City School System, I can rest a little easier knowing the men and women of the Monroe Police Department are ready to take on this type of threat,” said Mayor Ellis.

Investigators are now working to determine the source of the false threat.
