(Monroe, LA) Mayor Friday Ellis, the Monroe City Council, and the City of Monroe are excited to unveil the new plaque for the Honorable Abe Edward Pierce, III Conference Center.

The unveiling is this Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the current conference center. Mayor Pierce’s family and friends will join Mayor Ellis in sharing a few words ahead of the unveiling.

Last August, Mayor Ellis and Councilwoman Juanita Woods resolved to rename the conference center; the council unanimously passed the resolution.

Among his many other accomplishments, Mayor Pierce served as the first African American Mayor of the City of Monroe. He served from 1996 until 2000. He passed away on August 1, 2021.

Please join us as we celebrate Mayor Pierce’s tremendous impact on the City of Monroe and the region.
