FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – PLUM STREET TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE – GEORGIA STREET PUMP STATION INSTALLATION OF 42′ FORCE MAIN
October 12, 2026
*Update: Extending the road closure of Plum Street further east to the intersection of 1st Street. Starting Tuesday, October 13, 2026. For this closure we will close the East bound lane and keep the west bound lane open to allow local traffic access to homes on this section of Plum Street. The intersection of Plum Street & Florida will be completely closed because the 42″ HDPE Pipe string will stretch across the intersection and approximately 200 LF East of it. We will add barricades to our current traffic control plan and adjust detour signs as needed to direct traffic around the additional closure. This additional closure will remain in effect until the pipe is pulled in the bore mid to late next week.

The City of Monroe announces a temporary road closure on Plum Street, from Georgia Street down to Jackson Street. To safely install a new 42’ force main pipeline, Pulley Construction, Inc. will close this section to all through traffic, beginning Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 7:00 am and will remain closed until further notice. Pulley Construction, Inc. will be using specialized drilling and fusion equipment (HDPE and HDD) to complete this vital infrastructure upgrade. “Road Closed to Thru Traffic” signs and physical barricades will be stationed at the intersection of Plum Street from Georgia Street down to Jackson Street. All drivers and residents can take Mississippi Street to Winnsboro Road as the primary alternate route to safely access homes and navigate around the construction zone. Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling near the construction zone and follow all posted traffic signs. Barricades will be placed/maintained to ensure the safety of construction workers, motorist, and pedestrians. Please expect minor delays during morning and evening rush hours.
**We understand that this may create a short-term inconvenience. The City of Monroe appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to improve our local infrastructure. We do ask while work is in progress that you drive with caution while in the work area. Be advised that it is illegal to drive around barricades**.
