CITY OF MONROE
The following Ordinance was introduced by Woods , who moved for its adoption, and was seconded by Muhammad :
AN ORDINANCE REVOKING A PORTION OF REESE STREET (53’ WIDE BY 215’ LONG) BETWEEN BOOTH STREET AND ROGERS STREET.
WHEREAS, Lexicon Inc. / Steel Fabricators has requested the revocation of a portion of Reese Street beginning at the intersection of Reese Street and Booth Street and extending approximately 215’ easterly toward the intersection of Reese Street and Rogers Street;
WHEREAS, Lexicon Inc. / Steel Fabricators owns the property on each side of Reese Street along the proposed revocation and desires to close the roadway to through traffic to facilitate safe operations;
WHEREAS, the City of Monroe conducted a pilot closure and determined that the revocation would not adversely affect traffic flow in the surrounding area and this portion of Reese Street is no longer necessary for public use;
WHEREAS, once revoked, the right-of-way will revert to the adjacent property owner(s); and
WHEREAS, the City of Monroe Planning Commission has recommended that this request be approved (REV 102-25).
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Monroe, Louisiana, in legal session convened, that the approximately 53’ wide by 215’ long portion of Reese Street located between Booth Street and Rogers Street is no longer necessary for public use and is hereby revoked.
This Ordinance was introduced on April 14, 2026.
Notice published on April 17th and May 1st, 2026.
This Ordinance having been submitted in writing, introduced and published, was then submitted to a vote as a whole, the vote thereon being as follows:
AYES: Woods, McFarland & Muhammad
NAYS: None.
ABSENT: Harvey & Ezernack
And the Ordinance was declared ADOPTED on May 12, 2026.
