Mayor Statement – October 31, 2025

October 31, 2025

The Monroe Police Department has arrested Cameron James Criner, age 24, in connection with the triple homicide that occurred early Tuesday morning on Grammont Street. This horrific act of violence claimed the lives of Jamal Bosley (27), Jaborris Simpson (25), and two-year-old Jhersi Simpson. We continue to grieve alongside the families and community members devastated by this loss. The death of a child in such circumstances is a tragedy that shakes the soul of our city. Criner’s criminal history is extensive and deeply troubling:

● August 13, 2021: Arrested for 2nd Degree Feticide, Domestic Abuse Battery, and Criminal Damage to Property.

● October 1, 2022: Arrested for Resisting an Officer, Failure to Appear, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Domestic Abuse Battery, False Imprisonment, Domestic Abuse Battery–Aggravated Assault, and Domestic Abuse Battery–Child Endangerment.

● October 26, 2022: Probation Violation.

The charge of 2nd Degree Feticide was dropped, and Criner pled guilty to Domestic Abuse Battery of a Pregnant Victim. He was sentenced to three years at hard labor, beginning July 17, 2023, with a projected release of July 29, 2025 . His probation was revoked on October 13, 2021. These convictions legally prohibit Criner from possessing a firearm—a restriction he violated in the commission of this crime.

Mayor Friday Ellis said Friday afternoon, “We extend our deepest thanks to the public. Your courage in coming forward with information helped MPD identify and apprehend Mr. Criner. This arrest is a direct result of the swift, relentless, and professional work of our officers and detectives, and the leadership of Chief Zordan and his command staff.

This investigation remains active. We are committed to bringing every individual involved in this crime to justice. We ask the public and media to refrain from speculation or sharing unverified information, especially on social media, as doing so could jeopardize the integrity of the case and delay justice for the victims and their families.

We also want to be clear: retaliation is not justice. Violence will not heal this wound—it will only deepen it. We urge our community to stand together in grief, in resolve, and in unity. Let law enforcement do its job. Let justice take its course.

Additionally, we are aware of fraudulent fundraising accounts circulating online, including CashApp and other platforms that are not affiliated with the family. We urge the public to verify before donating. Creating or promoting fake donation accounts is a crime and will be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.

The Monroe Police Department and my office will continue to provide regular updates as facts become available. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact MPD at (318) 329-2600 or Crime Stoppers of North Delta at (318) 388-2274 (CASH).

We are grieving, but we are not broken. Monroe will not be defined by this tragedy—but by our response to it.”
