National Drinking Water Week 2017 May 7th thru 13th

Your Water!
To Know It Is To Love It.

This year marks the 43rd Anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act, the national legislation at the core of local and national efforts to provide safe drinking water and protect public health. The City of Monroe Water System will join in the celebration of National Drinking Water Week (May 7 – 13, 2017) – a national observance that highlights the value of water in our daily lives. Activities will take place at our water treatment plant, located at 2401 North 10th Street, Monroe, LA 71201 and other noted locations.

Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo says, “Water is a great and precious natural resource. In Monroe, we are proud to have the some of the best drinking water and most well-trained staff in the state.”

National Drinking Water Week recognizes the importance of water source protection and conservation, as well as the value and fragility of our water resources. Although water is available to us, we must all work together to ensure that it is safe for consumption. As part of its regulatory commitment to the community, City of Monroe Water System works diligently to ensure that our local drinking water is potable (safe to drink) and meets all State and Federal regulations.

Sean Benton Water System Manger adds, "Within the City of Monroe and areas in Ouachita Parish more than 70,000 residents are served by our water system on a daily basis. Each resident relies on our water systems to provide a constant supply of potable water. However, consumers are often unaware of the challenges associated with producing safe drinking water. The tasks facing drinking water programs and public water systems continue to be extremely

challenging – especially in an era of aging infrastructure, scarce resources, and increased regulations.”
