CITY OF MONROE                                                                                   

 

The following Ordinance was introduced by  McFarland                              , who moved for its adoption, and was seconded by  Harvey                    :

 

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY OF MONROE OPERATING BUDGET FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2026-2027 TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR CANCER SCREENINGS FOR FIRE SERVIC EMPLOYEES AND FURTHER PROVIDING WITH RESPECT THERETO.

 

WHEREAS, Section 5-04 of the Monroe City Charter and La. R.S. 39:1310 authorize the amendment of the City’s operating budget following its adoption;

 

WHEREAS, La. R.S. 33:2581.4 requires municipalities employing firefighters to provide periodic cancer screening examinations for eligible firefighters and fire service employees; and

 

WHEREAS the City of Monroe must appropriate additional funding to implement and comply with the requirements of La. R.S. 33:2581.4 during Fiscal Year 2026–2027.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Monroe, Louisiana, in legal session convened, that the Operating Budget for Fiscal Year 2026–2027 is hereby amended by adding an expenditure line item entitled “Fire Cancer Screening – Professional Testing Services” in Fund: 2071 – City Expense – Benefits, Account No. 2071-3500 6263.001, and appropriating One Hundred Fifty Thousand and No/100 ($150,000.00) Dollars to procure professional medical screening services, including the execution of one or more contracts with qualified providers, and to pay related expenses for cancer screening examinations required by La. R.S. 33:2581.4.

 

This Ordinance was introduced on July 28, 2026.

 

            Notice Published on  July 31st          , 2026.

 

This Ordinance having been submitted in writing, introduced and published, was then submitted to a vote as a whole, the vote thereon being as follows:

 

AYES:            Harvey, Ezernack, McFarland & Muhammad

 

NAYS:            None.

 

ABSENT:      Woods

 

And the Ordinance was declared ADOPTED on August 11, 2026.
