Thursday, August 30, 2018 - 4:15pm

Monroe City Marshal Wince Highshaw reports that two deputies with the Monroe City Marshal’s
office were injured in a one vehicle accident around 3:30 pm Wednesday, August 29. According
to Marshal Highshaw, deputies Mike Cheveliar and Sheri Thompson were traveling southeast on
LA Hwy 15. The two were headed to the Richland Parish Correction Center to pick up a prisoner.
The driving conditions were wet following yesterday’s rain storm. At some point the vehicle
hydroplaned, causing the car to crash into trees in a wooded area just off Hwy 15.

Monroe City Marshal Wince Highshaw comments, “I was on the scene of the accident and at the
hospital, and both deputies were really shaken up. Emergency crews transported them to Saint
Francis Medical Center. Deputy Thompson was treated and eventually released last night.
However, Deputy Cheveliar was initially treated at Saint Francis, but was later air lifted to a
hospital in Shreveport, due to his injuries. No further update is currently available. Please keep
both deputies, their families, and the Marshal’s office in your prayers.”
