EMERGENCY ORDINANCE

STATE OF LOUISIANA                                                                               NO.  11,871            

CITY OF MONROE

            The following Resolution was introduced by Echols                     who moved for its adoption and was seconded by  Woods                      .

AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING JAMES E. MAYO, MAYOR, TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH SMITH MACHINE WORKS, FOR THE REPAIR OF THE HIGH VOLUME SERVICE PUMP AT THE TEXAS AVENUE SEWER PUMP STATION AND FURTHER PROVIDING WITH RESPECT THERETO:

            WHEREAS, the high-volume service pump at the Texas Avenue high service pump station is not working and is in need of immediate repair; and

WHEREAS, the failure of this pump at the Texas Avenue pump station makes it impossible to adequately provide sewer service for the City of Monroe; and

            WHEREAS, the failure of the pump station to provide sewer service would increase the City’s chances of being non-compliant with LPDES permit and the consent decree the City is presently under with the federal government and such failure would also cause property damage and danger to the residents living in the City of Monroe.

            NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Monroe, Louisiana, in legal session convened, that the situation with the high service sewer pump at the Texas Avenue Pump Station poses a danger to life and property loss and is hereby declared an emergency.

            BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that such emergency repairs as are necessary to repair the high service sewer pump at the Texas Avenue Pump Station is hereby authorized and approved and the Mayor of the City of Monroe is authorized to enter into such contracts as may be necessary to complete the project.

This Ordinance having been submitted in writing, introduced and was then submitted to a vote as a whole, the vote thereon being as follows:

AYES:            Echols, Ezernack, Woods, Wilson & Clark

NAYS:            None.

ABSENT:       None.

            And the Resolution was declared ADOPTED on the  11th    day of  September       , 2018.
